C.I. Ethnographic Museum of Valdefuentes

Located on the ground floor of the former Convent of San Agustín. As an anecdote, it was also used as a school.

Museum Facade

In the museum, you’ll find informative panels that delve into notable aspects of Valdefuentes’ culture and heritage by theme. It highlights its gastronomy, rich in excellent wines, sausages, figs, bread, cheese, and a colorful and devotional celebration: Los Tableros. Additionally, the museum features items that complement the exhibition, including farming tools, daily life utensils, documents, and even remains from a Roman settlement found in the area.

Inside the Museum
Warrior's Stele

Anexo to the center’s hall is a beautiful cloister used to host temporary exhibitions, piano concerts, conferences, and more. It also houses a collection of Roman funerary steles and is adorned with magnificent sgraffito, as is fitting. This Arab-origin technique decoratively adorns many façades in Valdefuentes, a town rightfully recognized as the Regional Capital of Sgraffito. From the museum, guided tours of the town and its surroundings are organized, providing tourist information to visitors.

Warrior’s Stele
Found by a resident of our town in May of the current year (2023).
Preliminary studies, yet to be confirmed, suggest an antiquity of 3000 years (Bronze Age). The decoration is only present on the front face: the top features a shield with a boss and geometric decoration, a spear, and a belt. The lower part is more difficult to interpret but appears to be part of the attire (a skirt).
